Pulmonologist on Hosur Road, Bengaluru

A corridor with one specialist lung service on it

Hosur Road runs from Silk Board in the south of Bengaluru down through Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Kudlu Gate, Singasandra, Hosa Road and Electronic City, past Bommasandra and Attibele, and across the state border into Hosur in Tamil Nadu. Several hundred thousand people live and work along it, and a great many more commute on it every day.

KIMS Hospital, Electronic City sits on this road at Konappana Agrahara, opposite the PES University EC Campus. Dr. Manjunath M Negigoudara consults there Monday to Saturday. The metro changed this corridor

For years the practical obstacle to specialist care on Hosur Road was not distance but unpredictability. A ten-kilometre journey could take twenty minutes or ninety, and appointments were missed because of it.

The Namma Metro Yellow Line opened in August 2025 and runs the full length of the corridor, elevated above the traffic, from RV Road down to Bommasandra. Coming from the city, the stations are Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road, Ragigudda, Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, Central Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Kudlu Gate, Singasandra, Hosa Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronic City, Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara, Huskur Road, Biocon Hebbagodi and Delta Electronics Bommasandra.

Konappana Agrahara is the station for the KIMS Electronic City area. For a breathless patient, a journey that no longer depends on the Silk Board flyover is a genuine change, not a minor convenience.

Patients from Hosur and Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu

Hosur lies roughly 20 to 25 km south of the hospital on the same road. It is a substantial industrial town, and for its residents KIMS Electronic City is closer and easier to reach than most specialist respiratory centres within Tamil Nadu. The same is true for Krishnagiri, Denkanikottai, Bagalur and the surrounding belt.

Two practical notes for patients crossing the border. Check with your insurer or corporate scheme that treatment in Karnataka is covered, since some regional policies have network restrictions, and bring the policy document. And if lung transplantation is a possibility, raise it at the first consultation, because deceased-donor organ allocation in India is administered state by state under a national framework and where you register has practical consequences. That conversation is better had at the start than discovered later.

The corridor's population is mixed, from industrial workers in the south to technology professionals in the middle and long-settled residential neighbourhoods in the north, and the case mix reflects that.

Traffic, air quality and your lungs

Living or working on a heavy traffic corridor means long-term exposure to diesel exhaust and fine particulate matter, and the evidence that this worsens asthma and COPD, and contributes to their development, is reasonably strong.

The important caveat is the opposite of what people expect. Air quality is rarely the sole explanation for a serious lung condition, so it should never be used to wave away symptoms without investigation. Patients on this corridor are sometimes told their cough is just the pollution when the real cause is asthma, post-TB damage, reflux or early interstitial disease, all of which are treatable and none of which improves by blaming the traffic.

Finding the hospital

By metro

Take the Yellow Line to Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara. Coming from BTM Layout, Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Kudlu Gate, Singasandra or Hosa Road, it is a direct ride with no changes. From Bommasandra it is two stops north.

By road

KIMS Hospital, Survey No. 37 and 38, PES University EC Campus, Hosur Road, Konappana Agrahara, Bengaluru 560100. From the city, the Electronic City elevated expressway is the fastest route and takes about 15 minutes from Silk Board when clear. From Hosur and Attibele, head north on Hosur Road through Bommasandra. Parking is available on site.

Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and the rest of India

The corridor does not stop at the border. Patients come from Hosur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Denkanikottai and Bagalur in Tamil Nadu, and onward from Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai and Chennai. From Andhra Pradesh and Telangana they come from Anantapur, Kurnool, Tirupati, Hyderabad and Vijayawada, and within Karnataka from Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Mysuru and Mangaluru. Kempegowda International Airport is about 45 km north of the hospital, on the far side of the city.

International patients
